Thelma Louise Shay, age 90 of Georgetown, Ohio died Monday, May 14, 2012 at the Southwest Regional Medical Center in Georgetown, Ohio. She was a retired employee of US Shoe Corporation in Ripley, Ohio where she had worked for forty-one years and was a member of the F.O.E. # 2293 in Georgetown, Ohio. She loved to cook. Her specialties were blackberry cake, peanut butter pies, apple dumplings and she made super meat loaf and mac and cheese. She also loved to play bingo and to have her grandchildren visit her. Thelma was born January 3, 1922 in Brown County, Ohio the daughter of the late Ray and Bernita (Shafer) Day. She was also preceded in death by her husband – James Shay in 1968, one son – Robert Shay, seven brothers – Harlon, Richard, Russell, Glenn, Ernst, Clarence and Leslie Day and two sisters – Louella Lykins and Effie Mae Bellamy.
Mrs. Shay is survived by five sons – Donald Shay of Georgetown, Ohio, James Shay and wife Edna of Georgetown, Ohio, Michael Shay and wife Carol of Hamersville, Ohio,Tim Shay of Amelia, Ohio and Steven Highfield and wife Juanita of New Hope, Ohio, one daughter – Phyllis Mitchell of Georgetown, Ohio, eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ohio. Kevin Whitsett will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Confidence Cemetery in Georgetown, Ohio.
