J. Gene Kirkbride, age 92 of Canton Ohio passed away Friday, January 29, 2016 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, Ohio. He was a 1943 graduate of McKinley High School and served our country as a United States Marine 1st Division during World War II in the South Pacific where he received a Purple Heart. He was Past Commandant of the Marine Corps League and also Vice Commandant of Northeast Ohio.  He and his wife, Helen resided at Lake Cable where he enjoyed his lifelong hobby of fishing daily. Upon his retirement from the auto industry he enjoyed his love of woodworking, building birdhouses and pursuing his lifelong fascination building models of historic offshore lighthouses and was a member of the Perry Christian Church. Mr. Kirkbride was born in Senecaville, Ohio one of eight children of the late Lloyd and Sadie Inez (Stevens) Kirkbride. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-seven years, Helen L. (Carlone) Kirkbride, whom passed away July 5, 2015.  

 Mr. Kirkbride is survived by two daughters - Susan (Kirkbride) Dahn and husband Thomas M. of Barnegat, New Jersey and Kathleen (Kirkbride) Garton of Crisfield, Maryland; three grandchildren - Jeffrey M. Dahn of Hawaii, Kristina Gaylor and husband Wesley of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania and Heather Brandt and husband Michael of Dallastown, Pennsylvania and three great grandchildren - Scarlette Dahn and Isabella and Bodie Brandt.

Following cremation, services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Cahall Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ohio is serving the family.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Marine Corps League, Ohio Veterans Home Georgetown, Ohio, Perry Christian Church and or the Canton Christian Home for Children.
