Rev. Robert John Mauntel, age 93 of Sardinia, Ohio passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the Ohio Valley Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center near Ripley, Ohio. He was an ordained Roman Catholic priest for sixty-seven years. Rev. Mauntel was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest on March 12, 1949 by Archbishop John T. Mc Nicholas. He served as associate pastor at several parishes in Cincinnati, Ohio and taught at the Purcell High School in Cincinnati, Ohio for fifteen years and the Mother of Mercy School in Cincinnati, Ohio for five years. In 1971, he was appointed pastor of the St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Ripley, Ohio. Rev. Mauntel was appointed pastor of the St. Ann Parish in Hamilton, Ohio in 1986 and upon his retirement in 1992, he remained active in the priestly ministry, assisting at several parishes in Brown County, Ohio. Rev. Mauntel was born November 20, 1922 in Cincinnati, Ohio the son of the late Paul and Eleanor (Smeddinck) Mauntel. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers – Seaman 2nd Class Paul Mauntel (USS Indianapolis) and Charles Mauntel and two sisters – Martha Jansing and Irene Carr.

Rev. Mauntel is survived by one brother – Frank Mauntel and wife Mary Ann of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters – Ruth Niehaus and Mary Jane Eckhoff both of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister-in-law – Helen Mauntel of Cincinnati, Ohio and many loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the St. Angela Merici Parish in Fayetteville, Ohio. Auxiliary Bishop Joseph R. Binzer will be the Celebrant. Reception of the body and Vespers will be held at 4:30 P.M. Tuesday, May 31, 2016 followed by visitation until 8:00 P.M at the church. Committal service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Cahall Funeral Home in Mt. Orab, Ohio is serving the family.
