Donald Howard Brookbank

Donald Howard “Brookie” Brookbank, age 84 of Ripley, Ohio passed away Friday, July 6, 2018 at his residence, with his loving wife Doris beside him.  He was born June 13, 1934 in Higginsport, Ohio the son of the late Ray and Lena Brookbank.  He was also preceded in death by his sister – Dorothy Ray Garrison.

Brookie is survived by his loving wife of nearly fifty-four years – Doris (Jones) Brookbank; five children – Jackie Jansen (Matt) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Donnie Brookbank (Lori) of Maysville, Kentucky, Jill Benintendi (Chris) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Joy Haney of Lexington, Kentucky and Darrin Brookbank of Ripley, Ohio; twelve grandchildren – Mackenzie Jansen Nichols (Ben), Zack Jansen, Andrew Benintendi, Olivia Benintendi, Lilly Benintendi, Maddie Haney, Maci Haney, Joe Haney, Collin Brookbank, Claire Brookbank, Ben Brookbank and Luke Brookbank.

Brookie grew up in Higginsport, Ohio and graduated from Higginsport High School. His love for the Ohio River crossed over from his professional life of making a living, to years of recreational enjoyment.  He was self-employed, running his company, Brookbank River Transportation until his retirement in 2008.  He then went to work on his farm along the Ohio River.  Brookie was a member of the Masons, Scottish Rite and Shriners.  He was also a Director at the Citizens Bank of Higginsport for over fifty years and was a Director at the OK Warehouse for many years.  He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed participating and watching games.

Following cremation, a Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30 P.M. on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Ripley, Ohio.  Matt Carpenter will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 12:30 on Saturday at the church.
