Donald Russell McElroy

Donald Russell McElroy, age 80 of Georgetown, Ohio died Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Villa Georgetown Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Georgetown, Ohio. Mr. McElroy was in law enforcement and joined the police department in the Village of Georgetown, Ohio in 1966. He became the Chief of Police in 1968 and served in that capacity until 1981. He then was employed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol as a driver’s license examiner from 1981 until 1994. Mr. McElroy was a member of the St. George Catholic Church and was a former fireman for the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department. He was born March 1, 1939 in Georgetown, Ohio the son of the late Russell Vern and Dorothy (Dirr) McElroy. He was also preceded in death by one brother – David McElroy, two sisters – Maria McElroy and Jean Foster and one grandchild – J.J. McElroy.

Mr. McElroy is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years – Pat (Fox) McElroy whom he married January 16, 1960; five children – Kenny McElroy and wife Janet of Apison, Florida, Michael McElroy and wife Marilyn of Naples, Florida, Teresa Williams of Georgetown, Ohio, Gary McElroy of Lady Lake, Florida and Sherry McElroy and fiancé Rick Hertner of Georgetown, Ohio; two brothers – John McElroy and wife Karen of Georgetown, Ohio and Sam McElroy and wife Marjorie of Georgetown, Ohio; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Following cremation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the St. George Catholic Church in Georgetown, Ohio. Rev. Dohrman Byers will be the Celebrant. There will be no visitation. Interment will follow the services in the Confidence Cemetery. The Cahall Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ohio is serving the family.
