Alton “JR” Junior Bauer, age 91 of Georgetown, Ohio passed away Monday, February 16, 2026 at his residence surround by his family. He was born June 1, 1934 in Georgetown, Ohio the son of the late Alton and Maude (Prine) Bauer. JR leaves behind a remarkable legacy, as a retired dispatcher and truck driver for Barrett Paving, as well as a devoted farmer. He purchased his beloved farm in the early 1960s, where he remained actively involved in the day-to-day operations throughout his life. The farm represented his passion and dedication, providing him with great joy as he nurtured it with love and hard work. In his later years, JR found pleasure in leisurely gator rides with his loyal companion, Kirby and tended to his land with activities such as bushhogging and mowing. He had an appreciation for the simple joys in life and never turned down a home-cooked meal. JR exemplified community spirit and commitment. He was a proud United States Army veteran and held a 65-year membership in the Georgetown Masonic Lodge F&AM #72. Additionally, JR was a respected and proud member of the Georgetown Breakfast Club. His contributions to both his profession and community will be remembered fondly and his warm spirit and dedication to those around him will be missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years - Mary Ellen (Boothby) Bauer in 2022 and two sisters – Idella Bauer and Ferne Crawford.
Mr. Bauer is survived by two daughters – Mary Beth Steele and husband Jeff of Georgetown, Ohio and Sarah Croft of Amelia, Ohio; two grandchildren – Morgan Kinder and husband Eric of Sardinia, Ohio and Tanner Croft of Moscow, Ohio; two great granddaughters – Halle Elle and Sidney Catherine Kinder; special family friend – Dave Kirk and wife Peggy of Owensville, Ohio; two nephews – Charles Utter and wife Regina and Galen Beckelhimer and wife Linda both of Georgetown, Ohio; one niece – Linda Elfort of Cincinnati, Ohio; fur baby – Kirby and a host of family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Cahal Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ohio is serving the family.
