Arietta Murdock Washington, age 78 of Ripley, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, with her family beside her. She was born October 24, 1931 in Georgetown, Ohio the daughter of the late Eugene and Ruena (Green) Settles. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Washington, Sr. in 2006
Mrs. Washington served as a substitute cook in the Ripley Union Lewis school system and later worked as a class room aide. She received an associate degree from Chatfield College and then worked as a Head Start teacher for ABCAP, from where she retired. Arietta was a lifetime member of Beebe Chapel CME Church in Ripley, Ohio and a member of the former Berry-Delaney American Legion Auxiliary Post of Ripley, Ohio.
Mrs. Washington is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law - Denise R. and Milt Thompson of Wilmington, Ohio; Andrea L. and Rick Brown of Wilmington, Ohio and Tracee B. Cloyd and Brian Cochran of Ripley, Ohio; five sons and daughters-in-law - Charles L. and Betty Washington, Jr. of Morehead, Kentucky; Clifton E. and Paula Washington of Lewis Center, Ohio; Timothy R. and Aileen Washington of Wilmington, North Carolina; Daniel D. Washington, Sr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Benjamin D. and Cynthia Washington of Ripley, Ohio and a very special daughter-in-law - Jay Berry Washington of Ripley, Ohio; twenty-one grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law - Emma Jean and John Brooks of Ripley, Ohio; two brothers and sister-in-law - Ronald E. and Cindy Settles of Cincinnati, Ohio and James E. and Linda Settles of Ripley, Ohio; a special niece, Ramona Coleman of Ripley, Ohio; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and a special pet, Winston (Winnie).
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Cahall Funeral Home in Ripley, Ohio. Rev. James Settles will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, January 22, 2010, also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Red Oak Cemetery near Ripley, Ohio
