Charles "Steve" Kirschner, age 91 of Higginsport, Ohio died Saturday, January 12, 2008 at the Meadowview Regional Hospital in Maysville, Kentucky. He retired from General Motors in 1978, was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Ripley, Ohio and enjoyed gardening and fishing on the Ohio River. Mr. Kirshner was born on November 27, 1916 in Ripley, Ohio the son of the late Nicolas and Elizabeth (Rheinschmidt) Kirschner. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Ruth (Wilson) Kirschner; two grandsons - Phillip "Tuck" Hines, Jr. and Joseph Kirschner (infant); one daughter in-law - Lula (Crawford) Kirschner; four brothers - John, Edwin, Fred and Roy "Hodie" Kirschner and five sisters - Mary Gast, Ida Hatfield, Emma Shinkle, Francis Baker and Edna Tessier.
Mr. Kirschner is survived by his eight children - Wilma Stutz and husband Hubie of Felicity, Ohio; John Kirschner of Higginsport, Ohio; Gary "Nick" Kirschner of Red Oak, Ohio; Ruth "Sissy Hines" and husband Dwight Thompson of Higginsport, Ohio; Fred Kirschner and wife Bonita of Higginsport, Ohio; Wanda Prater and husband Larry of Ripley, Ohio; Joe Kirschner and wife Julie of Bethel, Ohio and Linda Kirschner of Ripley, Ohio; twenty grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren - Donna Sue Adams, Mickey, Dave, Doug and Rob Stutz; Angela Tolin, Charlie Kirschner, John Kirschner, Karen Spires, Lois Green, Cheryl McCord, Melanie and Emmylou Hines, Joe, Jason and Missy Kirschner; Kali and Cody Kirschner, Neil Poole, Clinton Woollard, Brian Thompson, Alicia Poynter, Marie Lynott, Jill McKee, Amy Atkins, Denise Werline and Jessica and Kyle Woollard; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; nineteen step-great- grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 17, 2008 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Ripley, Ohio. Rev. James Schmitmeyer will be the celebrant. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Ripley, Ohio. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery in Ripley, Ohio.
