Donald Ray Lightner, age 77 of Ripley, Ohio, died Saturday, October 18, 2009 at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville, Kentucky. He retired from the United States Army in 1992 and was a Korean War Veteran. Mr. Lightner was a member of the Laborers Union Local #567, the American Legion Post #367 of Ripley, Ohio, the Eagles Lodge in Georgetown, Ohio and the AMVETS Post #124 in Maysville, Kentucky. He was born February 17, 1932 in Decatur, Ohio, the son of the late Johnathan and Margaret (Bruce) Lightner. He was also preceded in death by two sisters - Carol Jean Lightner and Katherine A. Kinder.

Mr. Lightner is survived by his wife of 33 years - Virginia (Hicks) Lightner; one son - Paul Lightner of Florida; one step-son - Doug Germann of Portsmouth, Ohio; two step-daughters - Marsha Ballard of Reno, Nevada and Carol Cordero of Tacoma, Washington; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters - Virginia Dunkin of Georgetown, Ohio; Mary Ann Cornelus of Ripley, Ohio and Regina Boone of Georgetown, Ohio; three brothers - Harold Lightner of Georgetown, Ohio, Billy Lightner of Ripley, Ohio and Reggie Lightner of Middletown, Ohio

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Cahall Funeral Home in Ripley, Ohio. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday. Following the memorial service, military honors will be provided by the Courts Fussnecker American Legion Post #367 of Ripley, Ohio.
