Donald E. Schroth, age 83 of Aberdeen, Ohio, formerly of Ripley, Ohio, died Monday, August 3, 2009 at his home. He was a restaurant and pool room owner whose establishment served the Ripley community for over forty years. Mr. Schroth was a U.S. Army WW II Veteran, where he served in the 337th Infantry of the 5th Army in the campaigns of Italy and Africa. He was wounded in Italy and was awarded two Purple Hearts. Mr. Schroth was born November 10, 1925 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of the late George and Helen (Innis) Schroth. He was the last surviving of seven children.

Mr. Schroth is survived by his wife - Virginia (Cooper) Schroth; two daughters - Dr. Donna Schroth of Boston, Massachusetts and Rev. Jayne Ruiz of New Orleans, Louisiana; one son-in-law - Alfredo Ruiz and one grandson, Christian Ruiz; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 7, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in Ripley, Ohio. Rev. Wayne Reveal and Rev. Jayne Ruiz will officiate. Visitation will be from 12 - 2 P.M. Friday at the church. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery in Ripley, Ohio, with veteran services by the Courts-Fussnecker American Legion Post #367. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to The First Presbyterian Church in Ripley, Ohio or to Hospice of Hope. The Cahall Funeral Home in Ripley, Ohio is serving the family.
