Gary Michael “Mike” Igney, age 81 passed away Thursday, December 18, 2025. He was born January 14, 1944 in Lafeyette, Indiana the son of the late Robert “Bob” and Ruth (Steward) Igney. Mike moved around quite extensively as a child due to his father being a basketball coach at various schools. He graduated from Rogers High School in Toledo, Ohio, earned his bachelor’s from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and his master’s from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. After college, he lived in Portsmouth, Ohio before moving to Cincinnati, Ohio for his job. He served as an assistant area manager for the Bureau of Vocational Rehab until his retirement. One year later, Mike decided retirement was not for him and returned to work at the Bureau of Woker’s Comp. His entire career was dedicated to helping individual achieve their full potential. Mike’s lifelong passion was tennis. He was an outstanding player who continued to play throughout his life until forced to retire due to injuries. In his later years, Mike took up golfing, even though it was frustrating, he found it enjoyable. He was also an excellent artist, whether the medium was pencil, acrylic, watercolor or oil, he could create a masterpiece. In his spare time, Mike enjoyed reading, traveling and watching sports and was always optimistic about championship seasons for the Reds and Bengals. He was an avid supporter of Purdue basketball, where his father served as captain, his senior year. One of his proudest moments was witnessing his father being inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Besides his parents, Mike was preceded in death by one son – Greg Igney and one brother – Bob Igney.

Mr. Igney is survived by his loving wife 28 years – Sue Risner; three sons – Jon Igney, David Igney and Matt Risner and wife Deanna; five grandchildren – Robin Igney and wife Cori, Ollie Igney, Adele Igney, Makayla Risner Kranz and husband Matt and Clay Risner; two great grandchildren – Xavier Kranz and Josie Mae Kranz and one sister-in-law - Rosie Igney.

Private services will be held Monday. December 22, 2025 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Mt.Orab, Ohio. Interment will be in the Pisgah Ridge Cemetery near Ripley, Ohio.
