Harvey Marion Bowman

Harvey Marion Bowman, 68 of Ripley, Ohio, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2026 at his home. He was born February 4, 1958 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio the son of the late Frances and Anna (Waldron) Bowman. He was also preceded in death by two half-sisters – Phyllis WattenBarger and Shirley Brierly.

Harvey was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He retired as Chief of Police in Ripley after serving first under the late Bill Perry as an officer, then as Assistant Chief, to become Chief upon Chief Perry’s retirement. Harvey first worked on the barges on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. He also worked as an EMT and Fireman. He then went into law enforcement in Manchester, Ohio, following his father France’s lead as an officer before starting his career in Ripley.

Harvey is survived by his loving wife of thirty-nine years – Bridget (Klump) Bowman. He also leaves four sons and their spouses – Charles F. and Sara Bowman of Columbus, Ohio, Christopher L. and Erica Bowman of Lexington, Kentucky, Jacob W. Bowman of Florence, Kentucky and Seth A. and Jennyfer Bowman of Elsmere, Kentucky; four grandchildren – MacKenzie Bowman, Brooklyn Bowman, Kairi Riveria Lopez and Julian Bowman-Lopez. Along with brothers and sisters of the Klump family and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Harvey loved his job in law enforcement, but even though it was hard to make time, he always put his family first. Marrying into the Klump family was not an easy transition, but he embraced it fully and loved being a part of it, becoming one of his late in-law’s favorite people. After retirement, he loved traveling, spending time in his garden or mowing his yard.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 10, 2026 at Cahall Funeral Home in Ripley, Ohio. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. Thursday. Interment will follow the funeral service in Red Oak Cemetery near Ripley.
