Ileta Myrtle Phillips, age 94 of Ripley, Ohio passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the Ohio Valley Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center near Ripley. She was employed at the former US Shoe Factory in Ripley for over thirty years and was a lifelong member of the Ripley Church of Christ. Ileta was born May 22, 1924 in Ripley, Ohio the beloved daughter of the late Elbert “Bert” and Margaret (White) Edwards. She was also preceded in death by a son – James Phillips; her brother Leo “Bert” Edwards as well as her sister – Annabelle Edwards.
Ileta is survived by her son – John Phillips of Mt. Orab, Ohio; two daughters-in-law – Valerie Phillips and Diana Phillips, both of Ripley, Ohio; five grandchildren – Chris Phillips (Renee) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jennifer Phillips of Ripley, Ohio, Justin Phillips (Becky) of Georgetown, Ohio, Benjamin Phillips (Aundie) of Ripley and Caitlin Phillips of Cincinnati, Ohio; eight great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
Ileta was a founding member of the Ripley Citizens Concerned for Youth and was an ardent and dedicated supporter for over forty years. The group provided warm clothing for children, sports equipment and uniforms and later grew to include scholarships for many children bound for college.
Following cremation, there will be a graveside memorial service held at a future date at the convenience of the family. At the request of Ileta, there will be no visitation.
