James Austin Cochran, known by many as the "Brownie Man" age 85 of Georgetown, Ohio died Monday, June 16, 2008 at the Brown County General Hospital in Georgetown, Ohio. Mr. Cochran was a retired engineer from Vought Air Craft Industries, Inc. in Grand Prairie, Texas; a United States Army World War II Veteran, was part of the European Theater of Operations that was invaded on his twenty-first birthday on Omaha Beach. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Carey Bavis American Legion Post 180 in Georgetown, Ohio; the Sam R. Hamilton Masonic Lodge 1031 in Grand Prairie, Texas; the Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite of Cincinnati, Ohio; the VFW and the Shriners. Mr. Cochran was born on June 6, 1923 in Combs, Kentucky, the son of the late Samuel and America (Tyler) Cochran. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one son- James "Jimmy" Cochran; three brothers- Nathan, Carl W. and Edward C. Cochran and three sisters- Mazie Cochran, Marie Rosie Baker and Juanita Molly Helton
Mr. Cochran is survived by his loving wife of thirty-three years - Merena Mae (Vice) Cochran of Georgetown, Ohio; one daughter - Melinda Cochran of Highland County, Ohio; one son - John Austin Cochran of Iowa; several grandchildren; one brother - William "Bud" Cochran of Bethel, Ohio; one sister - Creta Fay Bowling of Amelia, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
An anatomical gift was made to the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine. Cahall Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ohio is serving the family.
