James A. McElroy

James Alan McElroy, age 87 of Georgetown, Ohio passed away, Monday, July 28, 2025 at his residence peacefully with his family by his side. Mr. McElroy was a farmer, the owner of Buttermilk Falls Golf Course in Georgetown, Ohio and the former owner of the Brown County Oil Company. Besides his entrepreneurial ventures, Jim was very involved in civic and fraternal organizations, a former Georgetown Exempted Village Board of Education and Southern Hills Joint Career and Technical Center member and former president; former president of the Ohio Shorthorn Association and a member of the F&AM #72 Masonic Lodge. Mr. McElroy was born January 25, 1938 in Georgetown, Ohio the son of the late Robert and Lottie (Kautz) McElroy. He was also preceded in death by two brothers – Terry and Tom McElroy.

Jim is survived by his wife of sixty-five years – Kaye (Myers) McElroy whom he married September 5, 1959; five children – Kim McElroy of Georgetown, Ohio, Sheri Griffith (Dave Howerton) of Felicity, Ohio, Susan Smith (Carl) of Decatur, Ohio, Jamie McElroy of Georgetown, Ohio and Missy McElroy ( Troy Mitchell) of Georgetown, Ohio; nine grandchildren – Timothy South, B.J. Smith (Lauren), Brady South, Kayla South, Brittany Layman (Jason), Kyle Smith (Jocelyn), Collin McElroy, Houston Highlander and Jessica Griffith; Nine great grandchildren – Avery South, James Brady South, Taytum South, Addy Smith, Logan South, Izzy Smith, Ari Smith, Jackson Smith and Kyle Layman; one brother – Bobby McElroy of Georgetown, Ohio many nieces and nephews and the Buttermilk Falls Friends.

Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. Sunday, August 3, 2025 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ohio. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the Buttermilk Falls Golf Course, 3539 Eden Road, Georgetown, Ohio.
