Jane Henderson Massie

Jane Henderson Massie, age 58 of Maysville, Kentucky, died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at her home. She was born November 20, 1951 in Maysville, Kentucky the daughter of the late John and Cecile Henderson.
Ms. Massie was the principal at Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington Elementary School before retiring in January of this year, due to health issues. She spent thirty seven years in education, thirty three of which were in the Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington school district. She started her career in 1974 at Minerva Elementary School in Mason County, Kentucky and then accepted a position at Fayetteville Elementary School in Ohio before finally joining the Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington staff as a fourth grade teacher in 1977. During her time with the Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington school district, she also taught second, third and fifth grade students.
Ms. Massie was promoted to assistant principal in 2001 before being appointed principal in 2003. When she began as principal the school was on academic watch. It has been to her credit that the school is now classified by the state of Ohio as excellent.
She also served as an adjunct professor at Maysville Community and Technical College until 2000.
Ms. Massie is survived by two sisters - Lee Edwards of Maysville, Kentucky and Mary Ann Henderson of Germantown, Kentucky; one stepdaughter, Erica Wolfe of Bracken County, Kentucky; one stepson, Michael David Massie of Columbus, Ohio; one nephew, John Edwards and a great niece, Mackenzie Lee Edwards, both of Maryland.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Cahall Funeral Home in Ripley, Ohio. Rev. Clark Castle will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will follow the funeral service in Washington Baptist Cemetery.
