Jo Ann Dumford Bright, daughter of the late James Harmon and Lacy Lorie (Mowry) Dumford was born near Greenbush, Ohio on June 18, 1936 and departed this life on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at the Villa Georgetown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Georgetown, Ohio at the age of 89. She was a graduate of Mt. Orab High School and Wilmington College. Jo Ann loved children and wanted to teach. She taught 2nd grade for 35 years at Mt. Orab Elementary School for the Western Brown Local School District. She loved her job and loved the children. Some of the honors bestowed up her: she was chosen as a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar; she was given the Alumni Educator Award from Wilmington College and was a Kentucky Colonel. She was a member and attended the Union Plains United Methodist Church in Greenbush, Ohio and had always been a faithful member. Jo Ann was the choir director and played the piano for the choir and church services. She was the president of the United Methodist Women and greatly enjoyed the ladies and meetings. Her entire life was spent in the community in which she was born. Jo Ann’s jovial disposition, cheerful smile, kind and encouraging words were so characteristic of her philosophy of life. Her goal in life could be very well expressed in this poem: I never walk alone, Christ walks beside me; He is the dearest friend I’ve ever known; with such a friend to comfort and to guide me; I never, no, I never walk alone.
