John Layer
March 24, 1938 — April 11, 2014
John Layer, age 76 of Sardinia, Ohio died Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Silverton Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was a retired meat cutter for Kahn’s, member of the Mt. Orab First Baptist Church and a United States Korean War Airforce Veteran. John was born March 24, 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio the son of the late John and Bertie (Burdine) Layer, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife in 2008 – Jean (Schunk) Layer; one brother – William Layer and two sisters – Viola Dearth and Margie Elliott.
Mr. Layer is survived by three children – Cheryl Cooney of Hazel, Kentucky, Vikki Raines of Hillsboro, Ohio and David Layer of Hillsboro, Ohio; one sister – Eve Shafer of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Mt.Orab, Ohio. Tim Cline will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Sardinia Cemetery in Sardinia, Ohio with military services by the Carey-Bavis American Legion Post #180 of Georgetown, Ohio.
