John "Roy" Smathers

John “Roy” Smathers, age 69 of Georgetown, Ohio died Thursday, August 30, 2018 at his residence. Mr. Smathers worked in the steel mill industry and later retired from the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. He was a member of the Trenton Wyandotte Masonic Lodge # 8. Roy was born November 22, 1948 in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky the son of the late John A. and Elizabeth Lucille “Lucy” (Short) Smathers. He was also preceded in death by one sister – Olivia Goodpaster and two half siblings – Lucy Belle Shinfield and James Smathers.

Roy is survived by his wife of forty-five years – Maryann (Masterson) Smathers whom he married October 14, 1972; two children – Justin Smathers of Taylor, Michigan and Bambie Stanley and husband Terry of Taylor, Michigan; two grandchildren – Jordan and Nick Dambrose and one sister – Nancy Nall of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.

Masonic Services and funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. September 5, 2018 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Mt. Orab, Ohio. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Confidence Cemetery in Georgetown, Ohio.
