Lowell Edward Davis, age 83 of Ripley, Ohio, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at his residence. He was born June 25, 1941 in Bethel, Ohio the son of the late Lawrence and Lena (Marks) Davis. He was also preceded in death by his wife of fifty-four years – Virginia Sue (Starrett) Davis; three brothers – Larry D. Davis, Gary L. Davis and Jim Davis; one sister – Mary Ellen Davis.
Mr. Davis was a member of the Pleasant Aerie Fraternal Order of Eagles #2293 in Georgetown, Ohio, the Georgetown Masonic Lodge #72, the Moose Lodge in Maysville, Kentucky and a lifelong member of the NRA. Lowell was the friend of all friends. He enjoyed his longtime bar family at the Sunset Bar and Grill and Brookies. He was the guy you called when you needed a hand. He came with a smile and was always first to make a crock pot of food for race day or any get together. He loved to cook, fish, watch old western classics and was an avid NASCAR fan. He and his brothers, Larry and Gary, were huge Ford car fanatics and they raced at Edgewater Raceway in their younger days. Lowell, after working at Queen City Chevrolet in his early years, took a job at Cincinnati Milacron Oakley division and later transferred to the Mt. Orab plant where he then retired after 36 years of service. After retirement, he delivered parts for Smythe Auto Parts, where he made many more “car” friends and acquaintances. He enjoyed his slower days in life and loved spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids, as he got older.
Lowell was the loving husband of Virginia Sue Starrett, the love of his life, whom he married November 24, 1961. Together they raised five children. He is survived by his children – Bryan Davis (Tara) of Ripley, Ohio, Lawrence Davis of Ripley, Ohio, Kelly Drees (Gary) of Ripley, Ohio, Lowell J. Davis of Lumberton, North Carolina and Landon Davis (Tanika) of Ripley, Ohio; Grandchildren include Katherine Ishmael (Craig), Laura Klump (Ryan), Bryan Allen Davis, Blake Scott, Levi Scott, Savanna Wood, Scarlett Davis, Taylor Davis, Landon J. Davis and Logan Davis; twelve great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law – Mary Becraft (Herman) of Georgetown, Ohio and Sharon McCray (JC) of Georgetown, Ohio; longtime close family friend - Phillip Gates of Bethel, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, a memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Cahall Funeral Home in Ripley, Ohio. Inurnment will be in Red Oak Cemetery, near Ripley, Ohio, at a later date.
