Anne Marie Haskew Wilson, 91, of Ripley, Ohio, died on July 16th, at her residence in the presence of her loving family. The daughter of Elizabeth (O'Neal) and Russell Winters Haskew, Marie was born in Jackson, Tennessee on February 24, 1924. She graduated from Carr Central High School, Vicksburg, Mississippi in 1942. After graduation Marie worked for the U.S. Government Experiment Station in Vicksburg. After that summer, she and her older sister, Marge, moved to Little Rock, Arkansas where she met her future husband, Dale Wilson.
Marie met Dale at the wedding of a friend of Marge's and it was love at first sight. Dale was smitten by her good looks and said that he would never eat again unless she married him. After a brief courtship, they married on December 18, 1943 in Denver, Colorado. Dale was stationed at the U.S.Army Fitzsimmons General Hospital and Marie worked for the Post Engineer at the same hospital.
Supporting her husband's lifelong desire to become a funeral director-embalmer, Marie and Dale moved to Akron, Pittsburgh's School of Mortuary Science, and finally back to his hometown of Ripley. Marie was known in Ripley as the "prettiest war bride" to come there after World War II. She was an active member of the Ripley Junior Womens' Club, and she played the role of Esther for the Eastern Star.
Throughout her marriage, Marie was a loyal wife and devoted mother. She remained an active member of the Ripley Church of Christ where she taught a Sunday school class for over 50 years. An excellent cook, Marie could always be counted upon to volunteer her culinary skills to church and community members alike. Marie was part of the ownership of Ohio Valley Manor from it's inception and served on the Board of Directors in a leadership role.
Marie had a special talent - being "Dimples" the clown and she enjoyed clowning with her two sisters, Harriet "Daffidil" and Nancy "Dottie." They performed at several events at nursing homes and in the Ohio Tobacco Festival parade.
Marie was a very special lady who took pride in being a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and often times gave motherly support to others. Marie leaves behind four children: Pam (Larry) Baldridge of Springfield, Ohio, Tim (Cynthia) Wilson of Harmony, Florida, Jeff Wilson of Ripley, and Janet (Randy) Workman of Bethel, Ohio. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren: Stephanie (Chris) Woods, Tim (Johnna) Wilson, Suzanne Davis, Larry (Jennifer) Baldridge, Brandon Workman, Luke Workman, Daniel (Frances) Wilson, Brittany Wilson, James and Kaya Wilson; and great grandchildren, Braden, Hannah, Madeline, Sofia, Rhys, Adylen, Harley, Jesse, Avery, Logan, Keely and Summer.
