Melvina Penny

Melvina Penny, age 95 of Ripley, Ohio died Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Ohio Valley Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ripley, Ohio. She was a homemaker and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eastern Stars and the Church of Christ in Ripley, Ohio. Melvina was born May 31, 1914 in Manchester, Ohio, the daughter of the late Henry and Louise (Wagner) Smith. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband - John R. Penny in 1991, three sisters - Nellie Smith, Dorothy Shipp and Louise Dryden and one brother - Harold Smith.

Mrs. Penny is survived by one son - Steven Penny and wife Paula of Aberdeen, Ohio; one daughter - Bette Sue Ellis and husband John of Ripley, Ohio; two grandsons - John David Ellis of Jamestown, Ohio and Jeffery Dale Ellis of Florence, Kentucky; one step-granddaughter - Amber Wilson of Columbus, Ohio and one great-granddaughter - Emily Ellis.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at the Church of Christ in Ripley, Ohio. Rev. John Neu will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the services on Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Ripley, Ohio. There will be an Eastern Star Ceremony at 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Ripley, Ohio.
