Murl Garry Layman

Murl Garry Layman, age 89 of Bethel, Ohio died Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley Inpatient Center in Seaman, Ohio. He was a farmer, a foreman for 38 years for the G.A. Gray Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, a United States WWII Air Force veteran and a member of Mt. Orab Church of Christ, Farm Bureau and Farmers Union.  Murl was born November 18, 1926 in Cherry Fork, Ohio the son of the late Clennie and Ada (Purdin) Layman. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers – Ray, Harold, Delbert and his twin, Earl Layman and one sister – Geneva Hesse.

Mr. Layman is survived by his wife of 66 years – Hazel (Lewis) Layman, whom he married on April 23, 1949; six children – Brenda Layman of Washington Court House, Ohio, Beverly Lawwill and husband Gene of Bethel, Ohio, Gary L. Layman and wife Christine of Georgetown, Ohio, Belinda Newberry and husband John of Wichita, Kansas, Barbara Adamson and husband Rodney of Georgetown, Ohio and Beth Ann Ellis of Georgetown, Ohio; twelve grandchildren – Drew Lawwill and wife Kristen of Batavia, Ohio, Brandon Lawwill and wife Jennifer of Apple Creek, Ohio, Nicholas Layman and wife Amanda of Georgetown, Ohio, Stephanie Willey and husband Scott of Fayetteville, Ohio, Jason Layman and wife Kristina of Fayetteville, Ohio, Ambera Robinson and husband Dan of Amelia, Ohio, Alissa Hartman and husband Matt of Batavia, Ohio, Alex Adamson of Oakland, California, Alexandra Newberry of Nashville, Tennessee, Ashton Newberry of Wichita, Kansas and Carlee and Caroline Ellis both of Georgetown, Ohio; seven great grandchildren – Levi Layman, Jacob and Caleb Robinson, Asher, Eli, Ephram Hartman and Harley Schultz; one sister – Lucille McCray of Louisville, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law – Edna Layman and Wilda Wardlow both of Mt. Orab, Ohio and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Mt. Orab Church of Christ, 400 Smith Avenue, Mt. Orab, Ohio. Joe Strunk will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. Monday at the church. Interment will be in the Mt. Orab Cemetery in Mt. Orab, Ohio with military services by the Carey Bavis American Legion Post #180 of Georgetown, Ohio. The Cahall Funeral Home in Mt. Orab, Ohio is serving the family.
