Olive Frances Shafer

Olive Frances Shafer, age 90 of Georgetown, Ohio died Saturday, December 19, 2015 at her residence. Mrs. Shafer was a graduate of Wilmington College and was a teacher for thirty-five years in the Mowrystown, Russellville, Sardinia and Georgetown schools. She was a member of the Fairview Church and an avid quilter. She was born June 3, 1925 in Adams County, Ohio the daughter of the late Walter and Sadie (Kendall) Hughes. She was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years – Wilbur Shafer in 2010, whom she married July 1, 1955; one brother – Charles Hughes and an infant sister – Annabelle Hughes.

Mrs. Shafer is survived by one son – Dean Shafer of Georgetown, Ohio; one granddaughter – Tara Balzhiser and husband David of Mt. Orab, Ohio; three great grandchildren; one brother – Albert Hughes and several nephews and nieces along with a special niece and caregiver – Shirley Lewis of Decatur, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ohio. Lee Shafer will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Decatur Cemetery in Decatur, Ohio.
