Robert Penrose Barber

Robert Penrose Barber, age 84 of Georgetown, Ohio and formerly of Felicity, Ohio died Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Barber was born March 12, 1930 in Felicity, Ohio the son of the late Dr. Cecil F. and Gladys (Penrose) Barber. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one son - Anthony Barber and one sister - Marilyn Eich. He attended the Felicity Franklin School through the 6th grade and the "war years" were spent at Ohio Military Academy in College Hill while his father was a medical officer in the U.S. Army. He then returned to finish his high school years in Felicity. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy and became an official naval photographer. After completing his service obligation, he attended Rochester General Hospital where he received a degree in medical photography and was employed by the Decatur and Macon County Hospital in Decatur, Illinois as their staff photographer. He received a Master degree in biological sciences from the University of Illinois Graduate School in Champaign Urbana, Illinois in 1968. He transferred after two years to the University of Illinois Circle campus in Chicago where he pursued an additional Master Degree in neurology. In 1970, he was asked to join a new group of research scientists at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, California. He remained at this endeavor for the next thirty-five years until his retirement in 2006.

Mr. Barber is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years - Joyce (Weber) Barber; one daughter - Rebecca Barber of Georgetown, Ohio; two granddaughters - Jennifer and Rachel - both of Southern California; three great granddaughters and two brothers - Donald Barber of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Stephen Barber of Pompano Beach, Florida.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 25, 2014 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ohio. Gary Brose will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
