Shawn Aaron Smith, age 47 of Georgetown, Ohio passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2026 in Centerville, Ohio. He was born November 6, 1978 in Wilmington, Ohio the son of Nina (Coffman) McCollum of Georgetown, Ohio and the late George T. Smith. Shawn was a maintenance worker for the Brown County Rural Water Association. A proud graduate of Ripley Union Lewis Huntington High School in Ripley, Ohio, class of 1997, he went on to serve his country with honor in the Army National Guard until his discharge in 2007. During his service, Shawn was attached to a Marine Corps unit and took part in the Iraq War. Beyond his professional and military contributions, Shawn had a rich array of interests. He enjoyed working out, cooking, meditating, reading, drawing and playing video games. Those who knew him will fondly remember his warm sense of humor and his special gift for bringing smiles to those around him. Shawn’s legacy lives on through the many lives he touched with kindness and laughter and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Smith is survived by his wife – Janice (Pack) Smith; two sons – Ryan and Aaron Smith and two sisters – Tonya Braum of Arizona and April Shields of Flemingsburg, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, May 18, 2026 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ohio with military honors by the Carey Bavis American Legion Post #180. Wesley Thomas will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Following cremation, inurnment will be in the Pisgah Ridge Cemetery near Ripley, Ohio.
