June Ann (Truitt) McKinney was the second daughter of Junior and Agnes (Vaughn) Truitt, who preceded her in death. June Ann was also preceded in death by John J. McKinney (husband), John. J. McKinney, Jr. (son), and siblings Evelyn (Truitt) Polley, Betty (Truitt) Daniels, Dale Truitt, Donald (Duck) Truitt, Linda (Truitt) Blevins, and Gary Truitt. She is survived by siblings Shirley (Truitt) Brierly and Jack Truitt.
John and June Ann McKinney had five (5) children-Janet McKinney, JoAnn (Thomas) Lewis, Jimmy McKinney, Jill Chedester, and Julie (Richard) White, 12 grandchildren-Andrew Lewis, Ann (Lewis) Stauder, Jimmy John McKinney, Sarah (Hall) Chapman, Nick Hall, Jackie Chedester, Chrissy Chedester, Crystal White, Matthew White, Patrick Murphy, and Jennifer (Chedester) Knox; 24 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; Tamma Plymesser, who is considered daughter number five, a special nephew and sister-in-law, Jeff and Linda Truitt, and daughter-in-law, Annette Hall (Jeff Hall).
June Ann grew up on a farm in Ripley, Ohio. She graduated from Ripley High School in 1953 and was the Salutatorian of her class. She recently attended her 70th class reunion this year. During her career, she worked at Smith’s Grocery (Ripley), The Locker Plant (Ripley), Ripley Sundry Store, Shoezees (Higginsport), and Subway (Ripley). Since the Locker Plant, Sundry Store and Subway were in the same building, the family joke was she “came with the building.” She worked in that building for 45 years.
June Ann attended Ripley Church of Christ, her entire life, and taught Sunday School over 50 years along with co-teacher, Marie Wilson, her best friend. June Ann tried her best to live what she taught. Her Christian witness was an inspiration to her children and to all who knew her. Because of her loving and nurturing nature, many viewed June Ann as an adopted mother or grandmother.
June Ann was well known throughout the community for her talents as a seamstress. She made, mended, and repaired clothing for family and friends, using a treadle sewing machine. She used her gift to help many.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at the Ripley Church of Christ. John Neu will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 17, also at the church. Interment will follow the funeral service in Pisgah Ridge Cemetery near Ripley, Ohio.
